Devin Derrick, a native Oklahoman, grew up in the Guthrie and Edmond, Oklahoma area learning the music business from two generations of family. At a young age Devin’s passion for music took him traveling across the country performing at parties, clubs, state fairs and rodeos; escalating to Las Vegas!
In 1994, while performing at the Wild Horse Saloon in downtown Nashville, Devin won 1st place in a pro-am contest. His hard work was starting to payoff in awards and rewards of more engagements, which led to the purchase of his 1st tour bus.
In 2002, while performing in Nashville, a representative from the legendary Johnny Cash came to Devin’s tour bus and requested a demo CD. A while later, the same representative called Devin with some great news. John Carter Cash, son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, wanted to produce Devin in his studio.
Devin appeared at the Cash Cabin Studio in Nashville. Devin recorded “Lady”, written by the late Johnny Cash. This song had never been recorded by anyone except for the late Johnny Cash. “Lady” and another song produced by Devin Derick and Lindy Decker, “Certifiably Crazy” is included on Devin’s new I Hate Lovin’ It album.
In late 2008, Devin entertained as the featured guest in Oklahoma’s CMA Awards watch party.
In early 2009, Devin performed for UCO’s new Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM). UCO appointed Devin as an ambassador to ACM.
Over the years, Devin has entertained for a variety of events, venues, and openings.
Devin has performed with:
Blake Shelton, Tracy Byrd, Blackhawk, Alabama, Doug Stone, Chely Wright, Reba McEntire, Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chestnut, David Alan Coe…and many other entertainers.
Devin appeared in Toby Keith’s video, “A Little Less Talk, A Lot More Action,” and in his own video “I’m Better Than The Bottle”. Recently, Devin has acted in movies, such as “Cowgirls and Angels”, “Hay Days”, “The UnRest”, “Yellow”, and “Innocent Revenge”. Release dates will be coming soon! He will be the lead actor in a western, “No Rest For The Wicked”. He has 3 songs in “Cowgirls and Angels”. He produced music for “Hay Days” and will be scoring the music for “No Rest For The Wicked”.
Devin’s new CD, I Hate Lovin’ It is an unusual compilation of grass roots country music. Devin went back home to his roots, sacrificing time from his touring and performing career, to assemble a team of new and old friends who collaborated with him writing the original new music. The heart and feeling of this new album come from the people who actually live the life.
Musicians playing on Devin’s new CD I Hate Lovin’ It are nationally known with impressive resumes. Devin assembled an exemplary experienced team of players for this album. Johnnie Helms plays steel guitar on the album and with Johnnie Lee for “Urban Cowboy”. World renowned Byron Berline plays fiddle and mandolin. The incredible drumming is from Steve Short, who performed with Reba McEntire for 15 plus years. The rest of the team includes one of the best bass players, Richard Sharp; the impeccable guitar sound of Terry Scarberry; the virtuoso harmonica player David Short; the undeniably great dobro player Billy Perry; the tremendous piano and organ playing from Ryan Jones and Danny Borisky; and last but by no means least, the professional background vocals of Stephanie Short and Steven Jeffry.
Devin is very appreciative of his God given gift and for the people who have helped him along the way. Devin said, “I wish to thank everyone who endures with me the ups and downs of my career. From the day I was born with the gift of breath to give back through songs, even past the day I stop breathing; I owe more than just myself.”
